So, today I made up my long run that I missed yesterday. Thankfully, only 10 miles. I got up on time, it wasn’t raining, and when I got out of my car, it was cold and dark. Weird.
I was trying to keep my pace between 11:20 and 12:18. I did okay, but a couple of times I had to walk a little to slow myself down. I’m not racing, I’m training. Sheesh.
Half-way thru, the sun came up.

After mile 5, I stopped to turn on my music and my friend had sent me a text message that she was ALSO at the lake, at a race she was running and had forgotten about until her alarm went off this morning. ha ha! She said it was at the bath house, and I thought I had passed that already but I hadn’t (I’m a bit stupid when I’m running). I told her I’d pick her up, and to text me when she was done.
So, I have my music, and by mile 6 I feel FANTASTIC and pretty much give up trying to stay within my training pace range. I’m smiling, singing along to my music, enjoying the sun on my face. Then at 7.5, I get to the Bath House! WHOA! I looked for bibs on bikes and runners, and don’t see any. Yay!
I sprint like a mad woman to the start, just in time to see my friend start out! I yelled at her but she couldn’t hear me, so I sprint (again!) to cross the parking lot to catch up with her and I did! I ran thru the runners to get to her and wish her luck.
I also got a pic of her!! Teal shirt, no hat. She won a trophy AND PRed. Great race for her. I went on my way, still smiling and singing.

I was nearly done, 1 mile to go, and two cyclists crashed in front of me. SCARY! I stayed until the cops came, then went on my way. The girl’s face was smashed and both knees trashed and bloody. yikes. The guy was just lying there, back to me. Once the cops came, I ran on, but my buzz was gone by that scariness and I was a little freaked out. I struggled the last mile. STRUGGLED. When I turned around to go back to the car, the ambulance/rescue truck was there with the cyclists. I hope they’re ok. The guy was still in the same position as when I had left. poor people.
anyway, got back to my car and a gu packet I had left on the seat had opened and spilled out. I don’t know how that happened. Then I picked up my friend, who had just finished, and headed home.
Now, I’m full of breakfast and coffee, and waiting for my birthday lunch at spiral diner with my family!
